In London the FTSE 100 Index has closed 47 points up and broken through the 5000 point mark closing at 5011 points.
Blue-chip shares headed upwards in morning trading, boosted by a strong performance from mining, petrochemical and gaming stocks. Reckitt Benkiser up led the benchmark up 47p to 1727p along with British Gas 12.25p to 429p. Scottish Radio Holdings rose 14% to 992.5 p, after rejecting an initial take over bid by media giant Emap. Shares in the media firm dipped slightly by 0.6% in contrast. Emap has offered 1,040p for each of the broadcaster's shares.
