FTSE up despite volatile Wall Street

The FTSE 100 is up this afternoon rising 62.34 points (1.67%) to 3774.40 by 3:15pm.

Xstrata, Land Securities Group and Barclays have been jostling for poll position during afternoon trading with each posting gains of 10.57p, 9.75p by 3:25pm respectively. Legal and General has continued to add to its share price with an increase of 2.50p to 35.50p by 3:27pm. Friends Provident has led the downside today posting a cut in it share price of nearly 6% bringing its price down 4.30p to 68.00p.
