Consumers drive FTSE skywards

The FTSE 100 is up once again after shooting skywards this morning, rising 52.60 points (0.96%) to 5541.80.

Wolseley led the winners, up 56.60 (13.43) to 477.25p while ITV saw their stock price increasing 6.25% (2.8) to 47.6p. It has also been a positive day for Retail, defying the credit crunch, as Marks and Spencer is up 17 (5.92%) to 304p. Carphone Warehouse Group saw an increase of 11 (5.34%) to 217p, while Next is up 4.91% or 53 to 1133p. Today’s biggest losers are all mining and resources stocks. Ferrexpo fared worst, down 15.5 or 5.96% to 244.75. Eurasian, John Wood Group, Petrofac and Rio Tinto all saw losses. After a shaky start, Wall Street trading is going well with the Dow Jon...
