There are no surprises in the white paper pension document and it is a small step forward which is probably as much as we could have expected.

The white paper’s proposal to simplify state pensions is most welcome and auto-enrolment may help increase retirement saving. But one major reason why retirement under saving has arisen is the lack of understanding about the cost of providing a reasonable pension at retirement. Indeed, if savers truly start to redirect capital and income into pensions saving to the level required, the affect on a consumer driven economy such as ours would be significant.
