FTSE rises as miners recover

The FTSE 100 Index has gained 0.93% to 5,778 points this morning led by recovering miners and triple digit gains on Wall Street.

Oil and gas group BG is leading the rise, jumping 10.61% to 683p as fourth quarter net income soared 114% to £504m with operating profit 97% better at £858m. Earnings for the year to 31 December jumped 64% to £1.357bn, while operating profit came in 57% higher at £2.38bn. Unilever is also in demand, gaining 2% to 611p, as pre-tax profit jumped 27% to €4.7bn and underlying sales by 3.1% as the company benefited from the re-organisation of the group.
