Old Mutual kickstarts FTSE

A strong early morning for Old Mutual has seen the FTSE jump 57 points, or 0.87%, to 6624.2.

As of 9.45am, the asset manager had gained 7.5 points, or 4.46%, to 175.7p. It was closely followed by BAE Systems, up 14.25 points, or 3.54%, to 416.25p and Morrison Supermarkets, which has climbed 9.75p, or 3.09%, to 325.5p. However, these gains were offset by poor mornings for Mitchell & But, down 18.5p, or 2.07%, to 873.5p, Standard Chartered, down 25 points to £16.59, and Barratt Developments, down four points, or 0.42%, to 948p. In the US, the Dow Jones had a mixed day eventually finishing 53 points down, or 0.38%, on 13918.22. Exxon Mobil, up 2.06 points to 91.15, Coca-Cola, up...
