FTSE levels out as miners rally

The FTSE 100 is down 1.6 points, or 0.03%, to 6,048.5, as miners are beginning to claw back earlier losses following the declining rate of the dollar.

Xstrata is posting the biggest gains so far with a rise of 2.53% to £22.71, closely followed by Kazakhmys which has climbed 1.74% to £11.72, while Lonmin has gained 1.18% to £30.05. Yell Group is up 1.26% to 564p, closely followed by Gallaher Group which is up 1.08% to 936p, although on the downside British Airways is down 1.19% to 477p, while Barclays has slipped 1.16% to 680p. Although it’s the insurer Old Mutual which is the biggest drag on the index so far with a drop of 3.69% to 169.75p, following its third quarter results, while British Energy Group has fallen 1.56% to 472.5p, and...
