Higher income earners are just as likely to be found rummaging around car boot sales as acquiring the latest "bling-bling" accessory, research from LloydsTSB suggests.

A survey of more than 1,000 people earning more than £50,000, or with a house worth more than £250,000, or liquid assets of more than £30,000, found looking through classified advertisements, or buying used cars or furniture is a mainstay of high income life. A quarter of respondents said they are happy to visit car boot sales, about the same number would buy something from a “bric-a-brac” shop, while two-thirds say they would buy a used car rather than a new one.
