Buffett loses rich list crown

Warren Buffett has been ousted from pole position on Forbes magazine's rich list, as the global financial crisis hits the world's richest people.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates reclaims the top spot despite his wealth plunging $18bn to $40bn. Over 330 billionaires have been knocked off the annual list and, after losing almost a quarter of their wealth on average, only 793 people now have a place. Buffett's fortune plummeted by $25bn to $37bn. Just last year he ended Gates' 13 year reign as the world's richest man as shares in his company Berkshire Hathaway leapt to a record $150,000 per share.
