Global markets rebound after swine flu panic

The Dow Jones has rebounded strongly from an early sell-off in New York this morning as the threat of a swine flu pandemic continues to unnerve global investors.

After an 85 point fall to start the day, the Dow Jones has bounced back to be 20.95 points higher, or 0.26%, to 8,097.24. General Motors has opened strongly, up 23.67% to $2.09. Du Pont and Alcoa are among the early losses, down 4.34% to $27.53 and 2.74% to $8.89. Airline and holiday stocks continue to weigh on the FTSE 100 this afternoon, but the index has also rebounded from an early plunge to sit just 7.22 points lower, or 0.17%, to 4,148.77 this afternoon. British Airways is 9.15% down to 148.90p, while cruise operator Carnival has fallen 7.32% to £17.97 and holiday group Thomas C...
