Copper shines on FTSE

Sharp gains in forward delivery prices for copper in the London market this morning has helped the FTSE 100 index recoup some 10 points to 5,530 as metal and mining shares have made gains.

Rio Tinto is up 52p to 2,599, Xstrata is up 22p to 1,841p, and BHP Billiton is up 10.5p to 920.5p. Kazakhmys is up 10p to 958.5p. Poor news from Tesco has been to Sainsbury’s benefit, with the latter up 6p to 317p. Tesco is down 4.25p to 325.5p. BAE Systems has been another big loser after the Airbus consortium said it would have to again delay deliveries of the world’s biggest aircraft the A380. BAE is down 8.5p to 340.25p on fears its 20% stake in the Airbus business it is trying to sell will see its value lowered before a deal is struck. Associated British Ports leads gains i...
