The FTSE 100 Index fell 57.40 points, or 1%, to 5,708 points today, led by miners.
A note from JP Morgan took Antofagasta down 2.33% to 418.75p, Rio Tinto down 3.02% to 2,725p and Lonmin 0.22% lower to 2,771p. US light crude oil traded above $77 a barrel this morning, taking BP up 0.31% to 643p while Shell declined 0.16% to 1,903p. Amvescap fell 2.11% to 465p and Schroders declined 2.04% to 914p after they reacted to the global sell-off in equity markets. British Land fell 1.23% to 1,283p after it announced Sir John Ritblat is to step down as chairman at the end of the year. In the US, the Dow Jones industrial average has fallen 52.59 points, or 0.48%, to 10,793.7...
