Zurich claims declined for non-disclosure down

The number of critical illness (CI) claims declined due to non-disclosure at insurer Zurich dropped significantly in 2008 compared with the previous two years.

According to figures released today, only 0.4% of claims were turned away last year compared with 3% in 2006 and the same figure in 2007. Across the board, the number of claims paid in total increased for the third consecutive year, with 746 paid in 2008, 710 in 2007 and 702 in 2006. The total amount paid out also increased, from £49.6m in 2007 to £58.5m last year. In 2008, Zurich declined 9% of claims - mostly due to the definition not being met - compared to an overall decline rate of 12% the previous year.
