Failed takeover bid sees FTSE plummet

The FTSE100 has dived again, currently 28.8 points (0.53%) lower to 5383.10, as resources and energy companies take a hit.

British Energy Group has been hit hardest so far, rejecting a takeover offer from a part state owned French energy firm. It has fallen 5.07%, to 692.50. Mining and metal company Kazakhmys has also had a rough start, down 3.74% to 1443, while Vedanta Resources tumbled 3.47% to 1948. Kingfisher is leading the gains, climbing 4.8% to 123.2. Old Mutual and Friends Provident have contributed to a positive start for financials, up 2.88% to 99.9 for Old Mutual and 1.8% to 86.2 for Friends Provident. Stateside, Wall Street had a dismal day with the Dow closing down 205.67 points (1.78%)...
