Lloyds TSB takes FTSE lower

The FTSE 100 Index has lost 22 points, or 0.4%, to 5,796 points this morning, led by Lloyds TSB.

Lloyds TSB, Britain's fifth-largest bank by market value, has fallen 8p, or 1.5%, to 513p. BHP Billiton has lost 14p, or 1.4%, to 984p, Rio Tinto has declined 2.55% to 2,680p and Vedanta Resources has fallen 2.23% to 1,226p. British Airways has risen 2.71% to 388.50p after UBS issued a bullish note, lifting its price target to 500p from 420p. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average advanced 191.93 points, or 1.2%, to 15,656.59 points after machinery orders surged unexpectedly in June.
