Miners front early FTSE surge

The FTSE 100 is off to a strong start this morning, rocketing 44.90 points (1.02%) to 4432.44, following last night's triple-figure point gain on Wall Street.

Natural resources and mining companies are leading the way, with Fresnillo up 3.77% to 728.5p and Xstrata gaining 3.16% to 670p. Randgold Resources has added 3.1% to 4524p, while BHP Billiton has climbed 3.07% to 1475p. Oil ministers at Opec have decided to keep production on hold at 24.85 million barrels per day as they predict prices will rebound as the global economy recovers. Crude oil gained 28% in May, buoyed by rising equities, a weakening US dollar and increased demand for commodities. However, Tullow Oil has slumped 0.98% to 1009p, while Scottish and Southern Energy is down 0...
