Under 20% of consumers say FSA is good regulator

Less than a fifth of customers are convinced the FSA is effectively regulating the financial services industry, according to a new survey by YouGov conducted after Lloyds' bid for HBOS.

This figure is significantly lower compared to the FSA’s own research published in July. This found 67% of the population who were aware of the authority were confident it is successfully regulating the industry. Despite the efforts of Government, regulators and markets to intervene and restore confidence in the financial services industry, around six in ten consumers remain unsure that actions taken will resolve the current crisis. A cross section of nearly 4,000 consumers of Abbey, Alliance and Leicester, Barclays, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds TSB, Nationwide, RBS and Natwest were surveyed...
