One in four cancer cases are under age 60

A quarter of people who developed cancer in 2002 were under the age of 60, suggests evidence from the Office of National Statistics.

While one in three people develop cancer at some time in their lives, based on the 223,800 new cases of malignant cancer discovered in England in 2002, only one in four die from cancer. Two separate studies of medical conditions and mortality rates suggest the survival rates for both men and women improved between 1996 and 2001, with women more likely to survive if they have the same medical condition – with the exception of cancer of the bladder.
