Miners erase FTSE gains

The FTSE 100 Index fell 90.80 points, or 1.6%, to end 5,588 points today as miners and oil majors erased yesterday's gains.

Kazakhmys fell 5.73% to 1,020.50p, Antofagasta dropped 3.72% to 1,995p and Anglo American fell 3.08% to 2,016p. Falling oil prices led BP down 2.36% to 620p, while Royal Dutch Shell dropped 2.07% to 1,799p and Cairn Energy declined 4.76% to 2,083p. New Star Asset Management also fell 2.34% to 376p despite announcing assets under management up to £18bn and eyeing a “significant” advance in annual operating profit. Reversing the trend, Scottish Power rose 1.93% to 553.50p as higher output and rising margins helped drive a 47% rise in annual profit to £675m. Commercial property group Gre...
