FTSE bounces back as Hurricane Rita is downgraded

In the UK the FTSE 100 Index of leading shares has so far added 5.5 points, or 0.1%, to 5391.20 this morning led by ITV Plc and Enterprise Inns.

ITV, Britain's biggest commercial broadcaster, advanced 1.75p, or 1.6%, to 112.5p. Enterprise Inns, the UK’s biggest pub landlord, climbed 10p, or 1.2%, to 833.5. The company says full-year earnings matched its own forecast. In Japan the markets were closed today as the country observed a public holiday. Meanwhile in the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 44.02 points higher at 10,422.05 as Hurricane Rita was downgraded from the category 5 to a category 4 storm.
