FTSE ends drained of energy

The FTSE 100 has ended the day down 58.4 points, or 0.99%, to 5,831.8 as bid speculation failed to offset energy losses.

British Energy continued to be the biggest drag on the index with a drop of 8.27% to 582.5p, on fears about the cost of repairing two of its nuclear generators, while Drax Group continued to suffer with a loss of 3.61% to 855.5p. However other energy stocks performed better with BG Group posting the biggest gains with a rise of 1.54% to 660p, closely followed by Centrica which added 0.63% to 317.75p as both stocks gained from bid speculation.
