Although two issues, pensions and housing, have received their fair share of coverage this week, it seems as if MPs have chosen the easier routes to voters hearts and minds.

Witness yesterday's cramming of the Commons for the final Hunting Bill vote just days after the chancellor engaged in a war of words with Brussels over public works contracts. Changing rules on hunting, admittedly, was never going to be easy, yet there was still a shocking contrast to passions expressed compared with the debate earlier in the day on pensions. Arguably, the pensions law being discussed may directly affect a lot more people than hunting ever would.
