The FTSE 100 has gained 34.9 points, or 0.6%, to 6083.7 paced by Vedanta Resources and Xstrata after copper prices rose in Shanghai.
Vedanta, India's largest producer of copper and zinc, has gained 26p, or 2.1%, to 1,292p. Copper futures in Shanghai rose after a survey of purchasing managers showed manufacturing activity in China rose at a faster pace in November, indicating that demand for the metal may remain strong. Aluminum also gained. Xstrata, which acquired Canadian nickel miner Inco for $17bn earlier this year, is also up 54p, or 2.4%, to 2,334. Meanwhile Compass Group the world's largest caterer, has jumped 8p, or 2.8%, to 295p. And Prudential, the U.K.'s second-biggest insurer, has risen 16.5p, or 2.5% to...
