FTSE flat in last trading session

The FTSE 100 has started the last trading session before Christmas slightly flat with a small rise of 1.5 points, or 0.05%.

Cruise operator Carnival is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 2.29% to £25.94, closely followed by British Land which is up 1.82% to £16.80, while Intercontinental Hotels have gained 1.55% to £11.79. Insurer Old Mutual has climbed 1.17% to 173.25p, while Sage Group has added 1.12% to 271.25p, although gains are being limited by ICAP which is down 1.69% to 464.25p, while ICI has slipped 1.34% to 442.25p.
