FTSE falls with recession prediction

The FTSE has nose-dived 49.90 points (0.91%) to 5366.20 due to more negative sentiment.

The European Commission has predicted the UK, Germany and Spain will enter recession in 2008 and has downgraded Eurozone growth outlook from 1.7% to 1.3% this year. Today’s biggest loser is Ent Inns, plunging 30.75 (11.60%) to 234.25p. Barclays and HBOS are down 10.87% to 3.26p and 10.05% to 277.5p respectively. Mining firms Kazakhmys and Eurasian have also suffered losses. On a brighter note, ITV has retained its top of the table title for the day, gaining 3.60 (7.86%) to 49.40, despite being a possible casualty in the latest FTSE 100 reshuffle.
