New demographic group 'Freds' seeks value in Turkey

Around two-thirds of over-50s in the UK struggle with fears they will not have enough resources to keep them in retirement, according to research by pensions, investment and insurance group LV=. This new demographic group ‘facing retirement earnings doubts' has been dubbed ‘Freds'.

The problems faced by Freds include soaring UK living costs, a possible recession and a falling property market. Some Freds are also supporting children who continue to live at home because of the problems of obtaining an affordable mortgage. Many are now seeking relief in retiring abroad, with Turkey gaining in favour as a location where pensions and savings are likely to go further.
