Free medical treatment scrapped for UK visitors to Channel Islands

UK residents are being urged to purchase medical insurance before visiting the Channel Islands from now on after a bilateral healthcare agreement between the UK and the Channel Islands was cancelled.

The agreement, terminated on 31 March, used to provide UK visitors with free access to 'immediately necessary' primary medical care while in the Channel Islands, according to the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII). The Channel Islands are not part of the European Economic Area (EEA) and are not covered by certain EU Regulations which includes the European Health Insurance Card.
