Kaupthing swallows up Derbyshire IoM

Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander is to buy Derbyshire Offshore, the Isle of Man-based offshore subsidiary of Derbyshire Building Society.

Derbyshire Offshore, which offers fixed and variable rate sterling deposit accounts for retail and business customers, had total deposits of over £320m (EUR460m) at the end of the third quarter of 2007. Derbyshire Offshore will be integrated into Kaupthing's existing Isle of Man operation and the acquisition will not result in any job losses. When the deal goes through, expected to be by the end of the year, existing Derbyshire Isle of Man accounts will transfer to Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander (Isle of Man), which has been active on the island since 1971.
