2008 was a fairly tumultuous one in the protection industry in terms of product innovation. But which do you think will be the most influential in the long-run?

The story of 1998 in the protection industry was that this usually recalcitrant sector started to actually innovate en masse, largely independent of each other. In no particular order, there was Click, Fortis, PruProtect, LV=, Unum and Canada who between them launched a range of products including Real Life Cover, EAP and Class. That's not a bad overall for an entire year, particularly in this industry, and it's easy/lazy for us to sit back and amiably wish that 2009 will see more of the same.
