ETFs are more frequently used as long-term buy-and-hold investments rather than short-term tactical trading tools, according to the results of the Edhec European ETF Survey 2009. The survey found that ETFs providing broad market coverage are also more frequently used than ETFs covering specific sub-segments. "These results are surprising; after all, two of the clear advantages of ETFs are that they offer investment media for tracking particular sub-segments of the market and they are a liquid and easily traded instrument," says Edhec.
