Norwich Union is to cut 900 jobs across the UK and around 600 of these will be compulsory, officials at the life insurer have announced. Over 600 people will be made redundant at the company's general insurance business - with 300 of them at NU's headquarters in Norwich. Two hundred and eighty job losses are also expected near Manchester as the company will close its life and pension administration division in Cheadle by the end of March 2004.
