Pressed by the Tories on pensions in debate this evening, the government has given way and promised to allow a full debate on the Pensions Green Paper before the summer recess. The promise came ahead of a Commons vote on a Motion proposed by Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy, which would "condemn" the government for its delay in appointing a new minister for pensions, for pursuing mass means testing of pensions, and for continuing to rely on "very decrepit" computer systems for administering the Pension Credit.
