Alan Greenspan's move to reduce interest rates caught more than a few off guard as most were still recovering from the introduction of the real millennium year. The hazy first week back to work sent many scurrying as the US market, followed by the FTSE, rose dramatically on the back of the 0.5% US interest rate cut.
