Despite the adverse effects of the US market on Asia, Christian Dangerfield, manager of the Govett Asian Recovery Investment Trust, is positive about the benefits of the region. Uninspiring US economic data has triggered profit taking across cyclical markets like Korean and Taiwan and US corporate accounting fiascos have compounded losses in the Asia Pacific region by hurting sentiment, he believes. However, Dangerfield notes that domestic demand is the key driver of growth in Thailand and Indonesia.
