Paul Kirkby, the well-known Japan manager at GAM, has resigned but will stay with the group until the end of the year, writes Robert Stock in Investment Week. Kirkby, based at GAM's London office, was the first fund manager to run an Oeic with the launch of the onshore Japan Growth Fund in 1997. He also runs two offshore portfolios for the group and a hedge fund. His track record in long/short investing means he is being linked with a possible return as a hedge fund manager.
