Despite what its name might imply, warns Gill Hutchison, the limits imposed on the IA Mixed Investment 0-35% Shares sector still offers scope for portfolios to incorporate meaningful degrees of risk

The smallest of the Investment Association (IA) managed fund sectors, the IA Mixed Investment 0-35% Shares grouping was launched in 2012, following the harmonisation of the (former) Investment Management Association and ABI categories. It is telling that the more equity-friendly IA world did not previously feature a sector that had such a low ceiling for the shares content. Indeed, the launch of the sector, planned for the beginning of January 2012, was delayed until later in the month due to low demand as the IA requires a minimum of 10 funds for a sector launch.
