The chairman explains why he went AWOL last week

"Where on earth did you get to last Friday?" I asked the chairman of the improbably-sized investment company Prandeamus Asset Management when I dropped by to see him this week. "I was self-administering some post-referendum result therapy," he replied. "One glass at a time."

"Fair enough," I nodded. "But were you celebrating or drowning your sorrows?" "Both," said the chairman. "I've never believed it was possible to be either 100% ‘leave' or ‘remain' - or at least, if anyone claimed to be, I was never convinced they wholly understood the question. Life just isn't that simple and, all things considered - economy, security, red tape, sovereignty, nostalgia, self-interest and so forth - when it came to putting pencil to ballot paper, I was about 75% for staying and 25% for leaving.
