The chairman isn't convinced by the FCA's new interest in rules of thumb

"Have you actually read the Financial Advice Market Review?" asked the chairman of the improbably-sized investment company Prandeamus Asset Management when I dropped by to see him this week. "Have you?" I shot back, avoiding the question.

"As it happens, I have," came the unexpected reply. "And there is one element I find confusing." "Just one?" I checked. "Presumably, then, it is the idea of the regulatory sandbox we said we would talk about this week?" "No - that will have to wait for another time," said the chairman firmly. "Today I want to talk about this idea of an FCA-led taskforce to design rules of thumb and nudges for punters to use in the absence of actual financial advice and then encourage their adoption by employers, government agencies and charities."
