The IMA Global Equity Income sector was founded on 1 January 2012, making it one of the youngest in the industry. It is also among the fastest-growing: it was the fifth-best seller of the 36 sectors in 2012, with £1.4bn in net retail sales, and the fourth best in 2013, with £1.8bn. Indeed, the sector’s popularity has been such that it has become fashionable to see it as a ‘crowded trade’. However, a look at valuations suggests otherwise.
