In the first of a series of quick-fire interviews getting to know the adviser behind the adviser, we corner industry veteran, consultant and (recently re-authorised) financial planner Phil Billingham.

What’s the one thing you most dislike about the industry? Being called a ‘distributor’ by providers. The implication here is that providers are at the top of the chain and advisers simply distribute their products. What I actually do is give clients advice and the providers are merely suppliers. I believe providers that see advisers as distributors are going the way of buggy (horse) whip manufacturers, which went bust when people started driving cars.
