How much business should a ‘good' adviser be aiming to write per year and what sort of percentage can they expect back? Or are these questions not really worth asking?

How much business should a ‘good’ – or even a ‘very good’ – adviser be expected to write? Financial consultant Brett Davidson has put a figure on it. He told delegates during a recent online webinar that good advisers should look to hit anything between £150k and £200k each year, while very good, or experienced, advisers should target between £300k and £400k. Turning his attention to business principals, he added that, to achieve sustainability in their advisory firms, they should pay out no more than 40% of the annual business an adviser writes as ‘salary’.
