In reality, all mutual funds are managed in a certain style but, outside of the US, investors have historically paid very little attention to it. Within the US, Morningstar's popularity as a mutual fund ratings agency has helped raise awareness of investment style. Morningstar was set up in the US in 1984 and its style box, which classifies funds by style and market capitalisation, gives investors an immediate insight into the type of fund in which they are looking to invest.
