Clerical Medical International has grown its business to a size almost unrecognisable to that which started in the Isle of Man 20 years ago. Tiffany Hancock speaks to its general manager Dean Waddingham

From humble beginnings, Clerical Medical International (CMI) has come a long way in the last two decades. Twenty years ago, the CMI office opened in the Isle of Man with only eight staff. Fast-forward to 2007, and the number of employees based on the island has grown to 150 and they are backed by CMI's sales staff in the UK. "Our average premium size is more than £500,000 and we are doing extremely well in terms of growth of sales," says Dean Waddingham, general manager of CMI.
