It is no great surprise that specialist areas such as gold, energy, healthcare and technology tend to be very different in the way they perform in varying market conditions. The last year has seen average returns of almost 65% in the S&P Gold and Precious Metals sector, many TMT sectors - in particular TMT Global, Europe and USA - with mean performances above 40%, and biotechnology funds returning an average of almost 36%.
