Being an hour early to a surprise birthday party thrown in your honour will undo weeks of careful planning. Being a bit late for a job interview, on the other hand, will start you off on the wrong foot.  You will likely be able to recover from both of the aforementioned time-keeping mishaps - a few drinks in and your friends will have forgotten all about it.
