Elections could spark Turkey surge - Barings

TURKEY looks set to remain an attractive investment opportunity following the recent general election, Baring Asset Management has said.

The country’s ruling AKP party was once again confirmed by the electorate on Sunday after securing 46pc of the national vote, and the manager of the Baring Emerging Market Income fund believes the result will be good for the country’s economy. Ece Ugurtas, who has run the £54m fund since December 2006, revealed bonds, equities and the Turkish Lira had already rallied following the decision by the electorate to keep its ruling party in power, and she said the result would allow the country to continue to thrive. “The results represent a continuation of what has been in place over the l...
