Employers believe the Pensions Bill is a missed opportunity the CBI has said after the legislation passed its final hurdle.
John Cridland, CBI deputy director-general, says that while the government looked set to tackle the needs of scheme members, it has failed to address concerns of employers. Cridland says that amendments made to the Bill have introduced new costs that firms did not know they would have to endure. He adds that while business did gain some concessions, they were counter-balanced by disappointments - citing the Pension Protection Fund as an added burden, which still has no government financial backing.
