A 6-point drop on the FTSE 100 Index today, leaves it hovering five points above the 5,000 mark at its close.
Sugar refiner Tate & Lyle, down 19.5p to 465.5p, leads the UK benchmark, after it reported profit will be pegged back due to lower prices for European Union sugar. Centrica, the parent company of British Gas has also shed 4.75p to 230.5p, along with Amvescap, down 6p to 325p. On the other end of the scale, Johnson Matthey, a chemicals specialist supplier of platinum for catalysers, added 31p to £10.15, after reporting its full-year results met analysts' expectations.
