The FTSE 100 index has strengthened somewhat this morning, adding around 17 points to 4939.4 points, led by Corus Group.
The steel firm has picked up 2p to 58p, following a 1.5p loss yesterday as analysts are reporting a return of confidence in the firm after it reported yesterday steel demand is weakening in both the US and Europe. Friends Provident has also marched 2.75p ahead to 176.75p after unveiling a 29% increase in profits, while forecasting positive future returns for recent business. Cairn Energy is 17p to £11.69 due to higher oil prices. At the other end of the table, Rentokil Initial has shed 2.75p to 160p. In Tokyo the Nikkei 225 Stock Average advanced 0.9% to 11,879.81 at its close early...
