'And' brands drop FTSE to 4,900 points

In London the FTSE 100 Index dropped to a two month low, sitting at the 4,900 mark after shedding 18.3 points by its close a short while ago.

Sugar-cane refiner, Lyle & Tate, leads the drop on the benchmark, retreating 22p or 4% to 527.5p. The firm announced yesterday that demand for its Splenda sweetener since January outweighed lower profitability in its European sugar business, retaining performance in line with its forecasts. Scottish & Newcastle and Legal & General dropped 17.5p to 461.5p and 3.5p to 113.25p respectively, after both firms announced new investors would not have the right to most recent payouts.
